GAMING giant Blizzard Entertainment, the maker of the world's most popular game World of Warcraft (WoW), is setting up an office in Singapore.

It will offer technical support to players, as it is locating its Battle.net servers in Singapore as well.

This will greatly reduce server latency, or lag, for players of its wildly popular games, the latest being the long-anticipated StarCraft II.

The California-based game developer and publisher said it is keen to expand its presence in this region, given the burgeoning gaming population.

Its other Asian servers are in South Korea and Taiwan.

The location, opening date and size of the office have yet to be decided, said Blizzard.

Sweet! I wonder if that means Oceanic servers will be moving here or they are setting up new servers in SG.

hrm xedi, think the cat can be let out of the bag now right?

Lol I did say Blizzard's troubles in China could mean other things for the region. SE Asia has been getting a lot of attention as a market for online gaming.

For now the full article in the paper today captures most of what they're going to do. Wouldn't put too much hope on Singapore-based WoW servers, though it could happen. Looks like focus is on the upcoming games like SCII.

This is in the Public forum and my particular agency is involved, so don't want to say too much. But there are other possibilities also being explored that would be quite cool for the WoW player here. Unfortunately have to err on the side of paranoia - seen too many deals sunk by seemingly innocuous things.
