Introducing the Pet Store

Quote from: Nethaera (Source)
Today we?re pleased to introduce the Pet Store for World of Warcraft, a new way for players to obtain in-game pets to join them on their adventures in Azeroth. Two brand-new companions are now available for purchase exclusively at the Pet Store in the online Blizzard Store: Lil? K.T. and the Pandaren Monk.

Make a Difference: Pandaren Monk Charity Pet
Enter the Pandaren Monk, ( http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000763 ) a martial-arts expert who?s here to help celebrate the upcoming fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft. He may be cute, but he?s proof that even the softest of critters can overcome the hardest of circumstances. For every Pandaren Monk that finds its way to a player?s side between now and the end of the year (December 31, 2009 at 11:59 PDT), we?ll donate 50 percent of the $10 purchasing price to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in an effort to brew up a little hope, strength, and joy in a child?s life.

Lil? K.T., the Littlest Lich
Lil? K.T. is a miniature lich who bears a striking resemblance to the legendary lord of Naxxramas, Kel?Thuzad. But don?t let his diminutive stature fool you: Lil? K.T. has a diabolical laugh and wields true power at his bony fingertips, randomly wreaking icy havoc on critters who dare to cross his path. You can now buy this new pet for $10 on the Blizzard Store. (http://us.blizzard.com/store/ )

In order to receive a purchased pet, you?ll need to merge your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account. For more information on Battle.net, please visit the FAQ. ( https://us.battle.net/faq/index.html ) For more information on the new Pet Store, visit the Pet Store FAQ. ( http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=29845 )

However, 50% to the Make-a-Wish Foundation sounds good enough to buy the Pandaren Monk.

Just wow...
Next thing you know blizzards gonna be selling us gold at their online store.
This disgusts me.

this is the way blizz answer to micro-transaction all over the other free-to-play game...
they just said that 'dude we can do it too'....

on developer point of view... they're just brilliant.

on the player point of view.... I want PANDA /cry

I know they cost money but yeah i cant resist gonna get em when i get home. Joys of single life lol.

It's a bid for charity too but meh

oh its charity to?? didnt read all lol. Well there you go it will make a difference then instead of wasting money hehe

crap, they r going to make alot of money from this pet, imagine 1million x usd10 x 0.5

This is better money than a pet shop

Yeah make-a-wish foundation. If I remember right it's for people with life threatening illnesses to be granted like wishes via the donations and stuff. ie Disneyland trip for instance, or something less extravagant

EDIT: Fixt

i tried to purchase the 2 pets but it keeps telling my there's an error for my transaction. Anyone have the problem?

The charity is just a bullshit thing so people can use it as an excuse to make money.

If they really wanted to donate to charity they could give their own money from their business and out of their so called "pockets" rather than selling shit and giving like what, a penny for every 10 dollars?
Exaggerating but get my point. :p

its all in the book of marketing ;)

We call it stakeholder value

faceroll revenue stream is faceroll

It also means you can write the purchase off on your taxes as a charitable donation therefore making the pets free :)

it's a clever piece of marketing, designed to ensure people don't howl in protest at their first "pay real money for in game items" transactions - fairly cynical I think and probably the thin edge of the wedge but definitely cleverly executed

Blizz is looking for more ways to milk the cashcow which is WOW - if millions of people are prepared to devote 10+ hours of their life each week to the game, there must be plenty of them prepared to pay more than $4 a week for extra content and services = hence petshop, char transfers, race and faction changes, and probably lots more similar stuff to follow

it's just a sign of market maturity - they've grown used to the income stream from subscriptions, which is fairly mature now and not growing much, so they're looking for more ways to make hay while the sun shines, and the charity donation is just a bit of PR insurance against a backlash

I dun think we have rebate for this organisation in SG. Anyway there are too many charity scam in SG. I think we may have to purchase our gear in future or go naked :p
