Looking at AMG pack as an option, Or the more practical A200 with vision sport and AMG packs

Showing in Perth this week and will be going with a view to make purchasing decisions, but would appreciate feedback

Also will be visiting BMW, VW and even though the Perth sales people are the only guys who can un-sell a car... Audi

Kind of funny I'm going car shopping this weekend as well way too many choices though and I have to sell my car first.
I was going to look at infiniti g37s coupe in love with that car. Next choice would be a 335 BMW.

The a250 is a really nice looking g car though I love hatchbacks.

Don't like hacthbacks unless 2 door models

But that thing has to be worth a arm and a leg (thinking 50k+) and I would steal it.When joyriding in it I would hate not to see the sports package.

1.Sports package = more chicks
2.AMG package = More guy sex (if that's your thing not that there's anything wrong with that) also if you drive your boss to work must have!
3.The vision, sports and AMG all in one makes you the coolest cat at the traffic lights.haha and maybe the poorest too.

Just the comments from a bogan haha

Yeh 'available in Australia In march but launch event this week.

Surprisingly josh all those options apart from AMG are standard on a250,

Only thing holding me back is the turbo diesel efficiency - wich is 3k cheaper after the options to make it "look" like the a250 - but agree it would look sexy.

The other serious contender is the BMW 2 door coupe but my partner isn't as keen on it.

You guys are so lucky!!!! Here in Sillypore a Honda Jazz cost about SGD$120K... Never gonna own a BMW series...

Just remember, when it comes to European cars in Australia:

They are not designed for our climate, tend to have issues more often then your average Japanese car.

Expensive to fix (out of warranty) and hard to get parts for meaning long wait times for parts.

Often workshops other than dealerships will not work on these cars, meaning service costs are high.

Basically you want to look at the average maintenance costs and decide if u can afford that regular outlay rather than the initial cost of the car.

Diesel option also equals additional service costs

Don't want to shatter your dreams but more points to add:

These cars run heavy camber, your tyres will be lucky to see 40,000ks, not sure in exact rim size I'm guessing 19+ so easily 400-500$ per tyre.

Australian brakes get fucken hot- also lucky to see 60,000k, on an AMG merc I'd be easily looking at 1-1.5k per corner.

Thanks for that feedback, yeh.

I would go with a European insurer - that is a given when owning a European car.

Rims 18"

My current car I have had for 8 years and only put on 50,000km total so I am not too fussed about that - its a 2002 Ford Laser with now 89,000km on the clock which I bout second hand - nice car actually, if the central locking still worked... And the door handles didn't keep snapping .

The firm i work for is part of the Mercedes corporate program so we do get some free perks such as free servicing for 3 years, free pit stops etc.
(Working for a lawyers is not all bad :) )

I do want a car I can drive to Margaret river in and actually enjoy. That is another factor. The ride needs to be smooth which I will test drive first.

Specifically want a European car as their safety features far outstrip most japanese cars...

As for price. Surprisingly it's expected to be just shy of 60K including stamp duty and the options.

I Didn't know turbo diesel was more to service.... That's good to know as well. Maybe stick with petrol given my low kms

Yep if it's what you want then that's it!
Alot of people just don't look at the long term costs of owning European cars, in most cases I always recommend Japanese.

Reliable, low cost, parts readily available.

European cars are nice to drive ill admit but tell ya what wouldn't see me dead in a merc/BMW/Audi workshop!!!

At least it's not a land rover :)

Diesels cost more service wise because of the need to use low viscosity high grade synthetic oil and tend to require maintanence more frequently

I'll sell you my Mazda speed 3 fun little car and it's Japanese only problem is getting it to you :)

Have you thought about subaru at all? I had an STI for a while finally gave in and sold it. But I miss it and would definitely buy another one its a great car.

I have actually. My sister had an STI then traded it in for a more family orientated car now she has a little baby girl. it was a great car and I do believe they suite australia conditions quite well.

I will (hopefully) be in the same position soon enough.....

Might be worth a second look tho

The down side is you get picked on by the boys in blue.

Mazda/Honda would be my fall back position .

Having a laser currently which is just a rebadged Mazda 323 from the days ford they are quite good value for money and have solid engine builds.

Tho only issue I have with those is panel strength.. Which if it was a money issue, I could live with.

Edit: although if I got a Japanese car I am sure the German side of the family would disown me lol

Actually the 323 is a rebadged laser haha! Ford bought out Mazda a few years back now.

Panel strength will always be an issue with newer cars, everything is plastic Honda has recently started making plastic guards! Thats what SRS airbags are dor! But in saying that European cars fold like paper, except maybe Volvo.

Subaru make good cars, recently separated from GM.

My advice is go with what u want cause u'll only regret it if you don't, just remember general rule is the more exotic/ expensive a car is the more expensive they are to maintain, Japanese built cars are the highest quality cars built hands down, if that's what u want.

Most cars these days have high safety ratings aswell, cars are designed to crush in a crash for safety.

Car shopping went well,

Going to borrow a A200 for a weekend so I can give it a proper test.

If it fails the suspension test... Ie My spine turns in to aged Cheddar cheese, its off to the Audi dealer to check out the A3

Also drove a 1 series bmw and damn it was smooth. But also a lot more noisy.
