My comp has just started acting up this morning, I've just turned it on and the fan on the graphics card is making a really loud buzzing noise. I've cleaned all the dust from the external fans and inside the case but I don't want to mess around with the graphics card, pulling it out etc because I'll probably screw it up.
Card is a radeon 5850 by the way.

I'm not sure if it's related but my mouse and keyboard g15 and g9 have been randomly turning themselves off and on over the last couple of days.

Anyone able to offer an advice on how to stop the noise and random USB dcs?
 
Clean your graphics card fan. My computer died completely on Friday or Saturday, and I had to strip out everything and clean all my fans. Just do it slowly and you'll probably not break anything. PC parts look more fragile than they are.
 
Yeah - if the machine is completely powered off, you should be able to unplug and replace cards with no consequence. As Krys says be careful and don't force stuff. Also try to reduce static charge in your hands by touching the metal of the case. Try to avoid touching electrical connectors.
 
After I'd cleaned everything I started it up again, noise was the same but after about 3 minutes it stopped and went back to normal sound levels. Will see how it goes tonight.

Any ideas on dodgy USB connections?
 
Pillow, I got random USB noises and a couple of weeks later my graphics card died. Had to buy a new one. Might be unrelated, but since you have fan noise too... might need to be prepared!
 
Dodgy USB connection could be related to not enough power.. ie power supply on the way out.. which could possibly account for weird fan noises as well, I think, maybe...
 
I have a feeling the USB problem might just be the g9 it's 4 years old now and my new $30 wireless mouse is working fine

Difference there is wireless mouse has it's own power, it doesn't rely on the power supply. USB does. :)
