Patch 8.3 PTR - Horrific Visions Guide
Horrific Visions are one of the main new repeatable content added in Visions of N'Zoth. You will want to earn currency to enter these a few times a week as it is your main way to upgrade your legendary cloak and earn various rewards. Here's a breakdown of what to expect.

Need to Know
  • Horrific Visions are scenarios that you can enter solo or with up to 5 players. It will scale based on amount of players.
  • These are visions of what could happen if N'Zoth's visions come to pass.

  • You need to purchase Vessel of Horrific Visions for 10000 Coalescing Visions earning from doing N'Zoth assaults in order to enter.
  • Horrific Visions are the main way to earn Corrupted Memento. These are used to:
    • Unlock new abilities in the Titanic Research Archive, a new talent tree that has abilities to further increase your power in Horrific Visions.
    • Once the Titanic Research Archive is fully upgraded, you may use Corrupted Memento to purchase a few cosmetic rewards, a mount, and the new Gouged Eye of N'Zoth item from Wrathion which adds a socket to a piece of gear.
  • Horrific Visions are the only means to unlock the three new role essences and their rank ups.

      • Rank 2 Unlock - Complete a bonus objective in the hardest areas in a Horrific Vision and loot the extra chest at the end.
      • Rank 3 Unlock - Collect 45 Sparks of Unwavering Strength from bonus objective chests at the end of Horrific Visions.
  • Horrific Visions have gear rewards that scale from 420 to 470 based on how many chests you complete and what masks are active.

How to Unlock
You will unlock Horrific Visions just by accepting and completing the Black Empire Campaign quest chain upon logging in on patch day. Here is a guide for all parts of the chain. Part 4 specifically deals with the part of the chain that unlocks Horrific Visions.

Earning Coalescing Visions

The Basics
  • Horrific Visions take place in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar and alternate between the two every week.
  • The main objective of the vision is to complete the Tainted Area by killing the final boss. You will spawn in the tainted area automatically every entry.
    • The final boss of the Stormwind vision is Alleria and Thrall for Orgrimmar.
    • Killing the boss ends the scenario and ports you to the rewards chamber right away.
  • You have a sanity meter that drains over time and when you are hit by avoidable attacks from enemies.
    • You will be ejected from the instance if this bar reaches 0. In groups, another player can resurrect you by transferring half of their sanity to you.

  • Before starting the vision you will be placed in a staging area with Wrathion. During this time you may view the map and start the vision by speaking with him.
  • The map below shows you that there are actually more objectives other than the Tainted Area. As your cloak increases in rank and you start gaining talents from your Titanic Research Archive, your sanity will not drain as fast and you will be able to tackle more of the vision.
  • There are three different types of areas on the map.
    • 1x Tainted Area with the main objective to kill the final boss. This is where you start.
    • 2x Corrupted Areas to complete objectives where the sanity drain is higher and the enemies are harder. Completing these gives you more chests at the end of the run.
    • 2x Lost Areas to complete objectives where the sanity drain is even higher and the enemies are the hardest in the scenario. Completing these gives you more chests at the end of the run.
    • Every bonus area that you complete also strengthens the final boss of the Tainted Area and gives them new abilities. If you complete a Corrupted or Lost Area but run out of sanity before the final boss you will only earn the rewards from the bonus objectives and not from the final boss.
  • Each area also has a madness that rotates weekly. These are viewable in the map and also indicated at the top of your screen in each area. They are modifiers that further complicate the area.

Masks
  • There are 5 masks to unlock during Horrific Visions that further increase the difficulty when activated.
  • Upon unlocking a mask, it will appear in your staging area on a pedestal before you activate the vision. This is when you may choose to activate the mask modifier by interacting with it on the pedestal.
  • Each mask you activate grants a stacking +20% health and damage buff to enemies in the vision along with another effect seen in the chart below.
  • Each mask you activate also gives you +20% Corrupted Memento gains and increases the item level of the gear rewards at the end of the run.

Titanic Research Archive
You will unlock the Titanic Research Archive right after unlocking Horrific Visions. This is a talent tree that you spend your Corrupted Memento to provide bonuses and increase your power while in visions. The archive resides next to MOTHER.

Reminiscent of the talent trees in classic wow, there are tier ranks that you must spend enough points in before moving into the next rank below. The amount of Corrupted Memento needed to unlock a talent rank increases with each point placed into the archive, so chose what to prioritize first carefully!
