IRVINE, Calif., Oct 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) ? Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft(R): Cataclysm(TM), the highly anticipated third expansion for the world's most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Windows(R) XP/Windows Vista(R)/Windows(R) 7 and Macintosh(R) at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector's Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.

"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It's not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."

The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade(R) and Wrath of the Lich King(R), each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races ? worgen and goblins ? will join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. As players journey to the new level cap of 85, they'll discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power, and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.

The beta test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is currently underway. I for one will be taking leave for the rest of that week.

I recall how everybody in Singapore got shafted by a one-day delay on the release date of Wotlk.
So this time, maybe a digital download might be a better option. However I think there will be heavy traffic on that day, which could affect the digital download. Also, the size of the download could be so large that it might be better to wait for the retail version to be released. Decisions decisions.

Are people also looking at switching mains?

Yeah some are . Il make a post soon to see peoples intentions and we can go from there

hmm i feel like taking leave to get a shot at realm first 85 dk... but i've a feeling i'd lose out and be 2nd and it'll all be for nought

Don't those records involve some what of a team work to pull off though? I've heard people taking shifts or doing some clever mob tagging etc

I want to enjoy the trip to 85, so no need to get realm first.

Despite that, we need a reasonable timeline, so that people can get to 85 in time for raids.
So when will BNW do our first Cata raid? 8th Dec? 22nd Dec?

Like all other Xpacs kinda gotta instance and do H's to get gear to raid. Then be lucky to kill the 1st few bossers.

But imo that time of year not till after new years, not saying 10 crazy ppl will not be 85 by day 2 and raiding by day 3...Really no forseeing it,guessing wait till we have a 85 player base and go from there.

We will have to wait till our raiders are 85. Majority anyway. Noone will want to raid at Xmas ..

This ^ Also those wanting to get the profession realm first achievements, better prepare gold and to check AH at odd hours. I got my enchanting realm first by spending close to 35k on mats plus checking AH almost every 2 or 3 hours, before work / at work / at home.

Well if wotlk was any idea of how long it took wotlk launched on 13 November and our first 10 man raids were in the last weeks of November and our first 25 man raids were from the 3rd december with KT down on the 18th, christmas did take it's toll on raids with 1 week for the last 2 years being called off during that week to let everyone do other stuff but 10 mans did happen.

So going on that you're probably looking at 3 weeks for the first real 25 raids to get going, unfortunately this time that crosses over with christmas, so first week of january could most likely be our first 25's week. none of this is set in stone but.

I hit 80 around christmas, someone asked me to fill in at VoA sometime in January still in my t6, the t7 mage legs dropped. I whispered Evil "Are they any good for me?"

I for one will not be 85 until some time in January as I will be traveling from the 8th of dec to the 3 of January. So please dont kill everything until I come back :).

Has anyone managed to benchmark the time it will take yet? They (once again) made it sound like it wouldn't be trivial...

As long as it takes you to go through the quests. :p

always fun trying to tag the quest mob before 200 other ppl on the 1st day

if my copy arrives late im prolly gonna level a worgen or something.. sucks being behind the 8ball

i typed that in caps and it didnt let me wtfffff
